DENVER (AP)—The Colorado Rockies returned home Thursday to play a makeup game with the Philadelphia Phillies and pick up their newest teammate, Manny Delcarmen(notes).
The hard-throwing right-handed reliever met up with his bleary-eyed teammates at Coors Field two days after the Rockies acquired him from the Boston Red Sox for minor league pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller.
“Hopefully, I can bring something positive to nfl jerseys
the team,” Delcarmen said.
Rather than have him fly all the way to San Francisco, the Rockies had Delcarmen meet them in Denver, where they had to make up a May rainout with the Phillies before flying back to California for a crucial three-game set against the NL West-leading San Diego Padres.
The 28-year-old Delcarmen was 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA in 48 games for Boston this season. He was a key member of the Red Sox bullpen for several years, and pitched in Boston’s sweep of Colorado in the 2007 World Series.
He was a fixture on Boston’s bullpen since 2006 but has struggled at times the last two seasons for his hometown team. Boston general manager Theo Epstein said earlier this week: “Manny wasn’t necessarily pitching in the highest leverage situations with us anymore. We had a couple of guys that passed him on the depth chart.”
Delcarmen said he was nevertheless stunned when informed of cheap authentic jerseys
the trade.
“Honestly, I didn’t even know what to say when they told me. They were like, ‘You have no reaction.’ I was just in shock,” Delcarmen said.
The Rockies have had their eyes on Delcarmen for a long time. When they were talking about trading clubhouse leader Todd Helton(notes) to the Red Sox in January 2007, the talks broke down after Epstein refused to part with Delcarmen and fellow reliever Craig Hansen(notes).
Delcarmen said he was eager to help his new team keep pace in the NL playoff chase.
“I’m feeling fresh,” Delcarmen said.
Delcarmen met with manager Jim Tracy upon his arrival at Coors Field.
“He said, ‘I need you,”’ Delcarmen said. “When I got traded, I was keeping track of them the last couple of days, watching these games and being 4 1/2 back in the wild card, I’m definitely going to come in positive and I’m going to try to help the team out and get where they want to get.”
Tracy said Delcarmen will be used in front of righties Matt Belisle(notes) and Rafael Betancourt(notes).
“It’s a power arm that’s had some success in Boston, which is not the easiest place in the world to pitch with the stress load and everything else that’s on you day-in and day-out pitching for that ballclub—which plays right into what we’re trying to do here year-in and year-out,” Tracy said.
Tracy said he sees Delcarmen being able to solve his command issues much like starter Jorge De La Rosa(notes) did in Denver under the tutelage of pitching coach Bob Apodaca and bullpen coach Jim Wright.
“If there’s one thing that jumps out at you that maybe has been a little problem spot for him is consistency with his command. But it’s 95, 96 mph. It’s a beautiful arm to have in the fifth, sixth inning, so that we don’t continue to ride Belisle down to the 2010 nfl jerseys
point where we have nothing left,” Tracy said.
“I recall Jorge when he wore a different uniform other than the Rockies, command was always his problem. So they solved this equation before.”

Kuchar gets the final piece
ARAMUS, N.J. (AP)—Matt Kuchar and Tiger Woods are happy about where they’re going, even if the itinerary is entirely different.
Kuchar won The Barclays with a sensational shot out of the rough to beat Martin Laird with a birdie in a playoff. The victory assures he will be at East Lake in Atlanta—which the Georgia Tech grad considers a home course—to play the Tour Championship for the first time.
Woods tied for 12th and gets to go to Boston for the second round of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
A small step for one, a giant leap for another.
“There’s nothing like the feeling of winning,” said Kuchar, who moved up to No. 1 in the FedEx Cup standings, No. 1 on the PGA Tour money list and a career-best No. 10 in the world ranking. “You feel like you’re the best player in the world for this week.”
And he was, with help from Laird, who needed only two putts from just inside 25 feet to win on the final hole.
Woods hasn’t won in more than football jersey nine months, a strange sensation for a guy with 82 wins around the world. His primary goal Sunday was to do well enough to move inside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings to qualify for the second round of the playoffs at the TPC Boston. He shot a 67—the first time since the Masters that he broke 70 in the final round—and moved from No. 112 to No. 65.
Better yet, he thinks a victory might not be far away.
“I haven’t won all year,” Woods said. “But this is a week that I was very close. I felt that if I would have putted better for all four days, I would have been right there. Looking forward to next week.”
Kuchar was having his best year on the PGA Tour, missing only a victory. It didn’t look as though that would change at Ridgewood.
Having closed with a 5-under 66, playing his final 24 holes in regulation without a bogey, he headed for the practice range in case it was good enough to force a playoff. Laird took the lead with a birdie on the par-5 17th, then made a terrific escape out of the rough and under the trees to just inside 25 feet above the hole.
“Once he hit that great shot just to the back fringe on 18, I was pretty much shutting down my practice sessions,” Kuchar said. “I went over and was just a spectator, thinking that he’s got this wrapped up.”
It all changed so suddenly.
Laird ran his putt 7 feet by the hole Giants jersey and missed the comeback putt for par. Then came the shot that got these FedEx Cup playoffs off to a rousing start—a 7-iron from 192 yards out of the rough that scooted through the green, caught the back ramp, turned to the left toward the hole and settled 30 inches away for the winning birdie.
It changed the outcome of the tournament, and Kuchar’s perspective on the year.
“I knew if I put myself in contention enough times I was going to break through,” Kuchar said. “And I’m awfully excited to have it here at the Barclays. It’s a great place, the start of our FedEx Cup playoffs. I don’t know if I would put many events much higher on the list.”
Kuchar is assured of going to East Lake, and now has a decent shot at winning the FedEx Cup and its $10 million prize.
Along the way, he got a little training for the Ryder Cup.
Winning sure helps. Kuchar and Jeff Overton are the only Americans among the eight who earned their way onto the team who have not won this year, and the 32-year-old is sure to Jets jersey get a shot of confidence leading up to the Oct. 1-3 matches in Wales.
The way he won can only help.
He hopped in a cart with rules official Mark Russell, the crowd chanting and cheers.
“I told him, ‘This is great prep for the Ryder Cup,”’ Kuchar said. “I’m in a match play situation, I’ve got a playoff and I’ve got people going crazy. Hopefully, I’ll be able to put that in the memory bank and go with it come Ryder Cup time.”
Plus, he was playing a European—Laird is a 27-year-old from Scotland.

World’s Greatest Sand Player: Luke Donald
Could Luke Donald win the FedExCup? Sure. It would be another addition to one of the most diverse resumes on the PGA TOUR.
First, the golf stuff: Donald finished 15th at The Barclays, the opener to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup and now finds himself 17th in the FedExCup standings heading to the Deutsche Bank Championship over Labor Day weekend outside of Boston. Most importantly for the purposes of this piece, Donald leads the TOUR in scrambling from the sand, one of the stats a potential FedExCup champion would need to excel in.
Donald has been successful in saving par in 43 of 56 attempts this year on TOUR, a percentage of 76.79, enough for a comfortable cushion over second-place Carl Pettersson, who checks in at 72.57 percent.
And he’ll be playing for Europe in the Ryder Cup in October after earning a captain’s pick from Colin Montgomerie while on the course Sunday at The Barclays.
“It was very anxious moments and obviously there was some relief and very excited to nfl jerseys be back on the team and to be part of the Ryder Cup again,” Donald said after learning of his selection. “I missed it back in 2008 and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
Now for the non-golf stuff: Donald, an avid painter, earned a degree in art theory and practice at Northwestern. He donated one of his paintings to a PGATOUR.COM auction and the winning bid was $1,640, which was split between PGA TOUR Charities and junior golf charity in Chicago.
What’s more, Donald has his own signature wine.
It all started with a friendship Donald struck at Northwestern with Bill Terlato. Terlato took lessons from Donald’s coach, Pat Goss, who initially suggested the two get together. Depending on which of the three golfers that Terlato jokes inhabit his body comes to play, his handicap is between 0 and 4.
“(My coach) thought it would be good for me to have some good competitive games,” Donald said. “Also, Bill had an interest in sports cars, and so did I. And I knew he had a background in wine, which I was just getting into at the time.”
Terlato liked the soft-spoken Donald, a two-time TOUR winner, immediately.
“He seemed very mature,” Terlato said. “Very respectful. He also had an interest in wine and food, and so, from time to time—I mean, he was a college student—I’d bring some bottles for Patriots jersey him and his friends to taste, and he would tell me what he liked and which wines he preferred.
“That’s how we struck up a friendship. Over the years, we started to play some golf and spend more time together. And the friendship just sort of blossomed.”
Last year, Terlato floated the idea of creating a wine for Donald. He was adamant, however, that he didn’t want a celebrity endorser. Terlato wanted someone who would be involved in the development of the product.
“It was something totally different than anything we’ve ever done,” Terlato said. “We’re developing a food culture in the United States, and so we see this as an opportunity to produce a product that represents his personality, but also targets a younger audience.”
The opportunity to partner with his friend, whose family business is the nation’s No. 1 high-end wine importer by volume, was a no-brainer for Donald.
“I’ve always tried to surround myself with kind of Saints jersey premier brands to elevate my brand,” said Donald, who already has contracts with Polo, Rolex and the Royal Bank of Scotland. “Whenever I’ve done any deals it wasn’t really about chasing money. It’s about situating myself with the right kind of brands. … I guess it’s a kind of lifestyle, in a way.
“Every time I tell people (about the wine) they are very interested, “Oh wow, that sounds pretty cool.” Being involved in the process is what makes it really fun. I don’t want to just open my first bottle of wine and have no idea of what it tastes like. So I’m excited. “
